Which Close Up Magician Should You Choose?
Okay, I should probably give you a bit more to go on than that. Go ahead and Google the words ‘close-up magician’. There are quite a few, aren’t there? And while we are all unique in our own way, we do tend to look a bit samey when it comes to direct comparisons.
Here are five features to look for specifically when you’re deciding on which of us would be best suited for your event:
1) Are they a member of the Magic Circle?
One way to be certain that a close-up magician has the ability to amaze is if they are a member of the renowned Magic Circle in London. If they are, that means they have passed an exam, invigilated by long-standing professionals of the organisation, where they will have demonstrated their capability to perform magic to a high standard.
If they have been considered worthy of joining this prestigious members-only club, then you can be sure you’re in safe hands.
2) Do they have pictures & videos of them performing?
This is a good way of comparing the performance styles of different close-up magicians, as you can see what types of emotions their audiences are experiencing which will help give you an idea as to whether it would suit your event.
Plus, it’s a reliable way of being certain that they’re good at what they claim to be on their website.
3) Are they insured?
Any serious professional close-up magician should have Public Liability Insurance.
99.9% of the time, nothing goes wrong in a magic performance. But in that rare chance occurrence, a responsible magician is insured for anything that might go awry.
4) Is their price right for you?
There are close-up magicians at pretty much every price point, and there’s a reason for that.
In general, you will get what you pay for. As appealing as a cheap magician may sound, once they’re 10 minutes into performing at your event, you’ll probably see why they charged you so little.
The knowledge that you’re receiving the best calibre of entertainment from an experienced professional is worth the peace of mind it brings.
5) Will they be right for my event?
Have a look at their testimonials. Testimonials can be a great way of specifically finding out what a close-up magician’s performance personality is like, and whether it will suit the event you’re booking them for.
Even after you’ve done this research, and you have a shortlist of a few promising-looking magicians, if you’re still not sure which one would be best for you – give them a call.
Most will be more than happy to discuss the specifics of your event, how they can best integrate themselves into it, and make sure they work with you so that the event you’re hosting is a success.
